I apologize for the lack of blog posts lately...it's not that I haven't had the time, or even that I haven't had anything to write about. Mostly, I just haven't felt like using my brain that much! So, now I am here with lots of updates (with lots of pictures of course) about things we have been doing lately.
*****************
To round up the month of May we put in our very first garden. We have wanted to do this for quite some time now, but for this reason or that we never actually went through with it. We finally decided that it was time so Andy built two boxes, and then we had black dirt brought in. We also covered our front lawn so we could plant more grass. It was a lot of fun picking out the plants that we wanted, in fact we made a whole day out of it going to different places to find what we were looking for. We ended up with tomatoes, green and red peppers, onions, grape tomatoes, squash, peas, green beans, cucumbers, broccoli, lettuce, spinach, blueberries and strawberries. So far everything is looking great and I even enjoyed the first crop of lettuce for lunch yesterday. The grass is starting to grow in nicely as well.
To start June off we finished up Annabelle's softball season with their last game in Sanford. It was a very close game losing only by 1 point! Annabelle got to pitch a few innings as well. She did a great job! The first set of pics below show her batting and then sliding into home base. That sure makes for an exciting game when the girls slide!!
Here she is with her friend Emma Roman, her dad (who just happened to be the first base ump this game), and the Rancks, her wonderful coach, his wife and their daughter. They always said such nice things about Annabelle and I think she really enjoyed being part of their team.
The next week we headed off to the Fun Zone for a picnic and play time in celebration of the beginning of our summer vacation! We still had baby Henry for a few more days so we wanted to do something special with him too! He just loved the swing...Sydney did too and wanted to go as high as I could get her! It was a beautiful day and the kids really enjoyed running around, just as much as Henry enjoyed watching them!
Now...for some surprising news....at least to us! We have never been a cat family. My husband pretty much despises cats. He's a dog man all the way. But...last year we had a mouse problem on our back screened in porch. One day it hit me, that we should get a cat to keep the little rodents away. I ran the idea by my husband mostly expecting him to just laugh in my face like I was a crazy woman. Much to my surprise a few weeks later he came home with a cat from a friend. Her name was Foxy. Originally she was an indoor pet, but since Andy is highly allergic to cats we made up a spot for her on the back porch. She made herself right at home and we fell instantly in love with her.
Then, about a month later our neighbor was over helping us with our lawn and mentioned to the kids that she had some kittens in her barn if they wanted to go see them. Of course, she also mentioned that they were in need of a good home. That was the beginning of the end for us! Two days went by and the kids worked us over good. They made lists of why we should get a kitten, promised to take care of it, and buy whatever it would need. Again, much to my surprise my husband agreed to let them pick out one kitten! Of course the kids wasted no time and soon they brought home this little gal. She is cuddly and playful and just fur ball full of love. We named her Moxxy.
Unfortunately...Foxy does NOT like Moxxy. Hopefully she will come around someday, but for now she has made her new home on the front porch since she's older of course, and the kitten is on the screen porch in the back. With in weeks we went from a "we will NEVER have a cat" family to a "I can't believe we have TWO cats" family!! Unbelieveable!
The following week I started my new job babysitting my niece and nephew, Allie and Ethan. And what's the best way to start off a new job...going to the Spray Park of course! We had some really, really hot days that week actually so we decided that we just had to find something to help us cool down. The kids had a great time and I'm sure we will make our way back there a few times this summer!
This past weekend we went on our first camping trip of the year. We stayed with mom and dad in their fifth wheel. It was a chilly weekend, but we still had a great time. The kids spent most of the day in the lake swimming or at the park. One day they took a train ride around the park. They loved it and went as many times as the lady would let them!
Last, but not least...we took an impromtu trip to the Clare Airport yesterday. I happened across the event on Facebook and thought it looked like fun. They had five different airplanes that the kids could look at up close. Of course, they wanted to ride in them! They also had sky divers, a flight simulator, and crafts. It was a pretty neat way to spend a few of our many summer hours!
So, that's about it for now...but this month is only half way over and we have many, many more activities yet to cover...four birthdays, a wedding, Father's Day and a trip to Mackinac Island! And really...who knows what else we will come up with in the mean time! Stay tuned for lots more pictures and stories :)
